What does it really take to turn behavioural insights into climate action?

Our NUDGES Behind the Scenes video captures not only the implementation of six pilot actions across the Mediterranean, but also what came after — how we analysed the results, reflected on the lessons learned, and translated real-life experiments into concrete strategic guidance for cities and regions.

Across eight countries, partners worked with municipalities, schools, artists and local communities to test how cultural and sensory nudges can influence everyday choices. From scent-based interventions using aromatic herbs, to taste-focused food workshops, creative street solutions, artistic contests, and intergenerational eco-activities — each action explored a different pathway to climate engagement.

These experiences led us to a clear conclusion: culture is not a side element of climate policy — it is a powerful driver of change.

Building on the pilot results, we developed three key strategic documents:

• NUDGES Action Research Agenda – a roadmap for integrating behavioural and cultural nudges into climate policies

• Transferability Plan – guidance for adapting and scaling the approach across Mediterranean territories

• NUDGES Manifesto – an open invitation to join a growing community committed to culture-based climate action

Together, they move beyond isolated experiments and position cultural nudges — and even cultural boosts — as practical tools for strengthening collective climate resilience.
